This year, let’s approach the holidays with simplicity, peace, and intention. Here’s how to enjoy it all without getting caught up in the usual stress.

1. Start Simple, and Make a Plan.

November can bring a sense of being overwhelmed as we realize how close we are to the holiday season. Instead of diving in without a plan, take a few moments to organize your thoughts and set your priorities. Begin with a simple list of what you truly want to focus on for the next two months, then jot down a loose plan. Whether it’s hosting a family dinner, attending a few special events, or setting aside time for loved ones, deciding now will help you manage your energy later.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3, NIV). Pray over your list, and ask God to help you manage your time, energy, and priorities in a way that brings peace rather than pressure. With His guidance, you can focus on what’s most important and enjoy a holiday season that aligns with His purpose.

2. Focus on What Really Matters.

Holiday advertisements and social media often make us feel like we need a picture-perfect experience, but the heart of the holidays isn’t flawless meals or beautifully decorated homes. It’s relationships, gratitude, and reflecting on God’s goodness. When we let ourselves be pulled by the world’s expectations, we lose sight of the peace God freely offers us.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace” (Colossians 3:15a, NIV). Choose that peace by keeping God, family, and gratitude at the center of your holiday season.

3. Let Go of the Need to Be Perfect.

The holiday pressure to make everything “just right” can weigh heavily on you, but here’s a freeing truth: it doesn’t have to be perfect! Life isn’t perfect, and that’s okay. A welcoming space makes it easier to find joy in the season and allows you to focus on time with family and friends.

Decluttering your home is also a way to prepare your spirit—making space for peace and removing the unnecessary to focus on what’s truly important.

7. Simplify Gift Giving.

While giving gifts is a beautiful tradition, the pressure to overbuy can make it stressful. This year, consider focusing on thoughtful, meaningful gifts instead of checking off a long list. Intentional gifts that come from the heart can carry more meaning than a pile of presents.
