Want change in your life? Try adding these three routines
September is here and with it comes cooler nights, shortening daylight hours, leaves starting to turn, getting back to school, and getting back into routines. The change of seasons presents us with the perfect opportunity to evaluate our routines, replace bad habits, and embrace positive changes.
Why is it important to establish good routines?
One reason is that it gives structure when everything else feels like chaos. Life can often feel like a whirlwind, with responsibilities, challenges, and distractions all vying for our attention. By creating routines, we introduce some structure into our lives, helping us navigate the chaos with a sense of order. Just as God brought order to the universe, we too can bring order to our days.
For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.
—1 Corinthians 14:33 (NIV)
What are some routines we should establish?
- Get daily nourishment from God’s Word. The Bible is a wellspring of wisdom, comfort, and guidance. Incorporating regular Scripture reading into your routine nourishes your soul and equips you to face life’s challenges. Just as we nourish our bodies with food, we must feed our spirits with the truth of God’s Word.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
—Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
- Be intentional about spending time with God. Your faith journey is a continuous process of growth and transformation. Establishing a routine that includes intentional time spent with the Lord, helps you stay consistent in your spiritual endeavors. Regular communion with God deepens your understanding of His Word and draws you closer to His heart.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
—2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
- Build solid relationships. Fellowship with other believers is a crucial aspect of our faith. By scheduling time for group worship, study, or service, you build community and friendships. These interactions provide support, encouragement, and accountability on your journey of faith.
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another.
—Hebrews 10:25
As the fall season ushers in a time of change and transition, let us not underestimate the power of establishing good routines. Through structure, Scripture, consistency, and community, we can anchor our faith in a way that enables us to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. As you figure out your routines this fall, remember that in the midst of your daily tasks and commitments, you are carving out sacred spaces for God to work in your life. May this season be one of intentional growth, deepening faith, and a renewed commitment to walk with the Lord each step of the way. Remember, it’s the small, consistent steps that you take today that will ultimately lead you to the destination you desire!
