Take Control of Your Future
While many of the choices we made in the past are affecting the life we live today, we don’t have to continue to plant the same seeds and reap the same harvest for our future.
Just like if we keep planting corn, we’ll keep growing and harvesting corn, if we keep planting offenses, hurt, rejection, dishonesty, betrayal, pride, or any other myriad of wrong choices, we will keep growing and harvesting these things in our lives.
Sure, someone else may have given you the starter seed to begin the process of wrong planting, but you have the choice whether to keep planting it!
No matter what it looks like, you do have a choice.
Feeling stuck is always a difficult place to be.
The voices of pain, hurt, or discouragement will try to hold you hostage and keep you in that place of feeling like you’re sinking—like you’re the victim.
You must recognize and change the seed to get different fruit.
But how do we break the cycle?
I can remember a time when insecurity and fear held me in their grip.
I just wanted to stay in bed and pull the covers up over my head.
I’d think about where I had failed or who had hurt me.
I’d rehearse the scenarios again and again in my head.
Why do we give so much attention to the ones who hurt us, or our personal failures, instead of our progress?
It makes us hard and afraid to let God’s system of change work in our lives, which prevents us from becoming who we desire to be, let alone who God desires us to be.
We build defenses around our hearts that keep even the people that love us from getting in and helping us to see the truth that will set us free.
The most freeing revelation for me was twofold:
As long as I keep a right heart and forgive those who harm me, they can’t keep me down or hold me back.
God’s system will promote me beyond their words of condemnation or acts of unkindness.
If I am quick to admit or confess my mistake and turn, God will keep working with me, helping me to advance in Him.
So the only thing that can hold me back is ME!
I can’t blame anyone else.
I must examine MY thoughts, MY heart, and MY actions if I want to be in the center of His blessing.
I must forgive others and myself.
Ultimately, a person or even my mistakes can’t keep me from my destiny if I forgive others and myself and keep a right heart!
It’s my choice and yours.
Stop dwelling on the past and start declaring the future God has in His Word.
Your past is not your future.
Your decisions today WILL determine your tomorrows, so start making right heart choices today.
Let go of hurts and defenses.
Forgive others and forgive yourself.
Your future is waiting on you!
Start planting it.
Read and meditate on these words of life to get free from your past and begin heading toward your destiny:
Let us draw near (to God) with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:22)
I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.” (Psalm 32:5)
He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:10,12)
To console those who mourn, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that He may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3)
If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (Matthew 6:14)
There is therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the spirit. (Romans 8:1)
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away; behold ALL THINGS have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
