It’s Time for a Fresh Perspective. Two Quick Tips to Spring Clean Your Mind.
Spring has sprung! Have you done any spring cleaning? This is the time of year when many people throw out or give away old things and finally get to some of the to-dos they’ve had on a list for months. Spring cleaning and decluttering can really contribute to your sense of well-being and give you a fresh perspective. There’s a lot to be said about the benefits of decluttering.
When was the last time you decluttered your mind?
We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with information, distractions, and the day-to-day responsibilities of life in general. Our thoughts can become just as cluttered and chaotic as our personal spaces, making it hard to focus and connect with God and others.
Romans 12:2 tells us how to declutter our minds so we can find peace.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
—Romans 12:2 (NIV)
This is VITAL to living a decluttered life, and it tells us exactly what we need to do—renew our minds!
YOU have the power to change your perspective and way of thinking so you can align yourself with God’s will for your life. This verse also talks about the importance of breaking away from the negative patterns and influences of the world and instead focusing on God’s Word and truth.
One way to apply this verse to your life is by decluttering your mind. Just as you may declutter your physical space during the spring to create a more peaceful and organized environment, you can also declutter your mind to create more mental space for God’s truth and wisdom to take hold.
How? Here are a couple of tips on how to declutter your mind using the wisdom of Romans 12:2:
- Let go of negative thoughts. Negative thoughts can clutter our minds and prevent us from experiencing peace and joy. Think of negative thoughts like tattered and worn-out items in your home that you want to be rid of. Don’t dwell on how you wish you didn’t have to deal with them. You don’t! Acknowledge that they are negative and declutter! Let them go (1 Peter 5:7)! Focus on positive thoughts that align with the Word of God.
- Connect with God. One of the most powerful ways to declutter your mind is to connect with God. Spend time in prayer, read your Bible, and talk to Him! By focusing on God’s truth, you can declutter your mind and align yourself with His will for your life.
Decluttering your mind can be a powerful way to find peace and clarity in the fallen and broken world we live in.
Just like you have the power to spring clean your home or personal space, YOU have the power to break away from the negative patterns and influences of the world and create more mental space for God’s truth and wisdom to be planted inside of you.
You have all the tools you need to have a changed mindset and live a decluttered life. All you have to do is use them! Be intentional. You can live life intentionally in the Kingdom!
As you are spring cleaning and decluttering your home or personal space, take some time to spring clean and declutter your mind—and see how it can transform your perspective and relationship with God!
