Not All That Glitters: What the Rise of Faith-Based Entertainment Really Means

In Articles, Drenda On Guard, Entertainment

Something is stirring in the culture right now; and if you’ve been paying attention, you’ve probably felt it too.

While the world continues to push confusion, rebellion, and darkness through the airwaves, there’s another storyline quietly gaining momentum, one that centers on truth.

Faith-based entertainment is having a moment.

But before we jump on the bandwagon, we need to ask: What does this really mean and what do we do with it?

When God Interrupts Hollywood

Let’s be honest, Christian media hasn’t always had the best reputation.

For years, it was seen as low-budget, predictable, or preachy.

But now? Something’s different.

Series like The Chosen have reached over 200 million people around the globe.

House of David just climbed to #1 on Amazon Prime.

And The King of Kings, an animated Bible film, shattered opening weekend records.

That’s not just impressive; it’s significant.

People aren’t just watching. They’re leaning in, and not out of obligation but out of desperation. Our culture is exhausted. It’s overwhelmed. And deep down, it’s searching for something real. Whether they know it or not, what they’re searching for is Jesus.

A Cultural Wake-Up Call

Now, here’s where we need to stay sharp.

Because anytime truth begins to rise in the culture, the enemy tries to twist it, package it, and sell a version that’s easier to swallow. We’ve seen it before. And it’s happening again.

Not everything labeled “faith-based” is grounded in God’s Word. Some projects may be inspirational but stripped of real conviction. Others may have Christian characters—but no true Gospel. It’s the form without the power.

And if we’re not careful, we’ll celebrate “clean” content and call it good without ever asking, Is it aligned with truth?

Scripture warns us:

The time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

—2 Timothy 4:3 (NIV)

Friend, that time isn’t coming. It’s already here.

Don’t Just Watch the Move. Be Part of It.

So what do we do?

We don’t retreat. We rise up.

This is our opportunity to get involved, to support, share, and even create content that glorifies God and carries His truth without compromise. You don’t need a camera crew to make an impact. You just need a voice and the courage to use it.

Talk with your kids about what they’re watching. Share shows and films that speak life. Support faith-based creators who are committed to truth.

And if God’s stirring something in your heart creatively, don’t ignore it. You might be part of the solution He wants to release into the culture.

This Isn’t Just Entertainment. It’s a Kingdom Invitation.

Let’s be clear—what we’re seeing in entertainment right now isn’t random.

It’s not a phase.

It’s a Kingdom invitation.

God is reclaiming space the enemy thought he owned. He’s raising up voices, storytellers, and platforms to carry His message of hope and truth into homes, theaters, and screens around the world.

But revival always comes with responsibility.

We can’t afford to be passive. We need to stay anchored in the Word, led by the Spirit, and unafraid to call things what they are.

Because what glitters? It isn’t always gold.

But when it’s God… it carries eternal value.

Final Thoughts

Entertainment is shaping minds. And right now, the world is watching.

This is our moment to lead with clarity, truth, and light—not just in what we consume but also in how we show up.

Let’s celebrate what God is doing in this space, but let’s also commit to guarding it.

Let’s be women and men who don’t just follow trends. We need to discern the times.

Let’s be voices of wisdom, courage, and compassion.

Let’s let our lives, our homes, and our influence reflect the One who never changes.

Truth isn’t trending by accident.God is moving, and He’s calling us to move with Him.
